Nylon vs. polyester: what is the difference?

Nylon vs. polyester: what is the difference?

Carpets made of nylon or polyester are perennial favorites. The fibers are different in several ways, and therefore, each one is most durable when installed in specific areas of the home.  Remember, too, that padding is an essential component of carpet installation, regardless of which fiber you choose. Without it, your new carpeting will quickly become worn. You can depend on Sherlock's Carpet & Tile, a carpet store in Orland Park, Illinois, for a wide selection of carpeting and professional residential and commercial installation services.

Resilient nylon carpeting does not become crushed by footsteps or heavy furniture. Instead, it bounces back after compression and thus, retains its original look long after it was installed. Polyester is less resilient. Place nylon in family rooms and polyester in bedrooms.

Stain resistance

Nylon is an absorbent material, which is why carpet is treated for stain resistance in the factory. Because of this treatment, you can easily clean up spills, so the carpet does not become stained. Polyester naturally repels moisture and liquid spills, and therefore, it is highly stain-resistant.

Nylon carpeting tends to come in matte colors. In contrast, carpeting made of polyester, which dyes well, is available in a wide array of bright colors. Both fibers are fade-resistant, but it is prudent to keep carpet out of direct sunlight. You can choose from a wide range of light to dark colors, regardless of your fiber preference.
